What To Look For When Hiring a Heating & Cooling Company
Although you may live in your home for many years and never need to call an HVAC professional or a heating and cooling company, it’s nice to know there is someone reliable when and if you may need them. How do you know what to look for in a heating and cooling company? Here are some things to consider.
License
Regardless of what state you live in, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) professionals are required to have some sort of license. Before they can obtain licensure, they must meet specific training and work experience requirements. If you have an HVAC company in mind, you can check them out with your state. Your local government may be able to direct you as to whom to contact to verify that a contractor has a license,
Experience
Few things are as important as having good old fashioned experience. Ask around the neighborhood. Word of mouth is the best advertisement. Perhaps others in your neighborhood have used a certain HVAC company and can give a recommendation. Ask the company if they have any references where you can check out their work. Make sure that they are NATE-certified as well. This is not to say that a new company just starting out is not good, but you generally want a heating and cooling company that has some experience.
Insurance
It’s really important that your HVAC is adequately insured. You’ll want to know if something gets accidentally broken, you’ll get more than just an apology from the company. Insurance protects not only the heating and cooling company but the homeowner as well. The minimum insurance coverage the heating and cooling company should have is liability and property damage.
Although I’ve mentioned the most important things to look for when choosing an HVAC company, there are other things as well. Unless it’s an emergency where you have to have their services that minute, ask for quotes and rates and don’t be afraid to compare companies. If possible, get the quote or estimate in writing.
Do they offer a variety of products or do they offer only one or two brands? Do they offer 24/7 emergency service? These are all additions questions you can ask of any HVAC company you may be considering. As a professional service provider, the heating and cooling company would expect a potential customer to ask these questions.
